Lester J. Morr, 96, of Sun City passed away April 30, 2009. Lester was born in Altamont, Illinois, and was a veteran of WW II serving his country in the US Army. He was Postmaster in Altamont, IL retiring to Sun City in 1970, and was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Sun City, Sun City Lions Club and D.A.V. He was preceded in death by his first wife Vera in 1999. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children Jim Morr Julia and Doris Golf; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and his beloved dog Molly. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, 9849 N. 105th Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in memory of Lester J. Morr.

Lewis L. Wheeler, 73, formerly of Muscatine died April 30, 2009 in Wittmann, Arizona. Born in Muscatine to Chester & Francis Gladwell Wheeler he moved to Arizona in 1971 and was a construction worker. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Gilbert Armendarez Jr., better known by family and friends as G.G.. was born on March 23, 1978 to Juliet Gracie Martinez and Gilbert Armendarez. God chose to take him home on Wednesday, April 29, 2009.
Viewing is scheduled at Menke Funeral Home in Sun City, Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm with a rosary at 3:30. Funeral services will be Monday, May 4, 2009 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Glendale.
G.G. is survived by his daughter Ciara Armendarez, Momma, Gracie Martinez and his father Gilbert Armendarez from Odessa, TX maternal grandmother, Elvira Leyva from Odessa, TX and paternal grandmother Susie Armendarez.
He was preceded in death by a brother Orlondo Venegas, maternal grandfather Ernest Martinez and paternal grandfather Emilio Armendarez. He also leaves behind a brother Bob and his wife Letty, sister Marcie Whitley and her husband Jesse and sister Desi Radcliffe. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins that will miss him dearly as well as many friends.
“The Lord gives and the Lord takes away.” Our Lord chose to take G.G. to a place where there is no more pain or suffering. We ask for your prayers, that we may find the strength to accept our loss and that we may continue glorifying his name.

Scholes, Van Allen Jr.

Van, the beloved husband of Betty, passed away at Hospice Family Care Center in Peoria, AZ on April 20, 2009. He was born June 17, 1920 in Council Grove, Kansas. He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and two sisters. Van was a WWII veteran. He also spent time traveling with his trumpet. Singing and playing for various Big Band-era orchestras. After returning to Council Grove, Van owned an auto insurance company. He moved to the southwest in the early 60’s and settled in Phoenix in 1964. He spent many years in the title and life insurance business. Van was a generous, kind and loving man to his many friends and family members. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty, two daughters and son-in-laws, 5 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother, 1 sister and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service’s are to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Van’s memory to Hospice Family Care, 9045 W. Athens Street, Peoria, AZ 85382. Jean W. Tolmachoff 83 of Glendale, Arizona, passed away on April 18, 2009, after a long battle with Parkinsons. She was born February 8, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Her family moved and settled in Fresno, California where she grew up. After her marriage to Ephrem Pete Tolmachoff, they moved to Glendale, Arizona in 1946. Here they began farming and raising a family. She was an active member of the Russian Christian Molokan Church. She is survived by her two sons Pete E Jeanie , Ephrem E Diane , four grandchildren Julie Ann, Peter, Samantha, Georgeanne, and one sister Anna of Fresno, California. Visitation will be held on April 23, 2009 at the First Molokan Christian Church of Monterey Park, California. DONALD TAYLOR WILLIAMS
Donald T. Wiliiams, 77, passed away April 14, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ under the care of Hospice of Arizona with his two daughters at his side. Don was born April 17, 1931 in Phoenix, AZ He graduated from Glendale AZ High School in 1950 and served in the USAF at Luke Air Force Base from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.
In 1954 he married Jeany and they had two daughters, Dawn and Kim. Don farmed in and around the Buckeye, AZ area and worked as a chemical/fertilizer salesman until he moved to Blythe in 1967.
He originally came to Blythe for a 90-day job, working for Desert Ginning Co., and their customers as a “bug man”. He ended up staying for 42 years. In 1971 he formed a partnership with Tom and Chuck Robinson and Larry Augusta to form The Arrow Company.
In that time he farmed all over the valley and grew cotton, alfalfa, wheat, tomatoes, melons, soybeans, lettuce and peaches. He also pastured cattle and sheep.
He will best be remembered for his love of farming, fishing and the outdoors; his memory of people, places and events; his dry sense of humor and his ability to tell a story; and his enjoyment of attending “The Meeting” with his friends everyday at 3:00 at the coffee shop.
The generosity and honesty of his spirit touched many lives and he will be missed.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lack B. and Elma Faye Williams, and by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Jeany.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn and Kim granddaughters Kayde and Allison, grandson-in-law Josh, sister Wanda John Shawver and his much loved pets, Ginger Ann, Jeffrey Walter and Miss Kitty.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Community United Methodist Church of Blythe, 345 E. Barnard, Blythe, CA on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:00 A.M.
A fellowship gathering will be held immediately following in the church’s multi-purpose room.

John E. Olson 77, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away April, 17, 2009, at 1:38 a.m. after a long battle with many illnesses; his loving wife Marjorie of 57 years and family were at his side. Graveside services will be held on April 23, 2009 at 11:00 am at National Memorial Cemetery. John was born April 3, 1932, and was a very patriotic and proud man who served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for many decades just as his father had. John loved the outdoors; working in the yard and camping with his family and friends. The ocean and beaches were a special place for him to visit. Survivors include his wife Marjorie; two sisters Janis Nagel of Iowa and Joyce Pottorff of North Carolina; daughter Gail Cahn of Wickenburg, Arizona; sons Tim Olson of Surprise, Arizona and Mark Olson wife Penny of Middleton, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by everyone. Menke Funeral Home handled Arrangements.

“Papa Ron”
70, passed away April 13, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born in Fort Madison, Iowa May 16, 1938 to parents Raymond & Bernice Pohlmeyer. He attended St. Mary’s school and St. Ambrose College. He had a job with the Santa Fe Railroad and moved to Chicago and started his family. In 1973, as a single father, he moved with his four young children out west and relocated to Glendale, Arizona. He retired from Santa Fe in 1989. That’s when his true passion began, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren, also sharing with them his love and knowledge of sports, history, music, politics and Notre Dame. His grandchildren were his greatest pride, and he was their greatest hero, as he spent countless hours attending little league baseball games, high school basketball games, and dance recitals, just to name a few. Ron’s great sense of humor never waivered, even in his toughest times. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Neil and Stephen, son Ronald “Scott”, grandson Dylan Heltzel and his beloved Mary Alice. He is survived by his children, daughters Susan Spice and Sharon Mark Heltzel; son Raymond Kerry Pohlmeyer; grandchildren Mark, Derek, Zach and Breck Heltzel, Candace and Melissa Spice, and Hannah Pohlmeyer. His sister Carol Ken Zumdome and his nieces and nephews also survive. We will love and miss you forever, Papa. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Weds. at Menke Funeral Home 12420 N. l03rd Ave. Mass of Christian burial will be 8:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Helens Catholic Church 5510 W. Cholla St. with burial to follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley in his name.
