Rody Guinn, 56, of Surprise, AZ passed away May 31, 2009 in Sun City West, AZ. He was born Oct. 18, 1952 in Tucson, Arizona to Rodel and Marian Littlefield Guinn. He worked in insurance sales. He is survived by his wife Teresa; parents Rodel & Marian; brothers Steve & Danny and his sister Dee. Services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the Westpoint Ward-Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 15005 N. Dysart Rd., El Mirage, Arizona. Interment will follow at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ.

Evelyn L. Femino, 82, of Surprise, AZ, passed away on May 31, 2009, in Peoria, AZ. She is survived by her son, Paul, brother, Anthony, sisters, Jessy, and Marie, six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 5, 2009 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 17111 W. Bell Rd., Surprise, AZ.

Hazel Elizabeth Brown

Hazel Elizabeth Brown, formerly of Sedalia, Missouri, died on May 30
in Sun City. For 46 years, she was the beloved wife of William F. Brown,
a retired attorney who passed away in 1992.
Hazel is survived by her son, Bill Brown, her daughter Jessica Swaim,
granddaughter Allison Roiseland, and three great grandchildren.
An avid golfer, Hazel enjoyed playing on the ladies’ team at Riverview
and more recently at Palmbrook Country Club.
Friends and family will miss her easy, infectious laughter and vibrant
personality.

William S. Collins

William S. Collins, 90, of Peoria, AZ passed away May 27, 2009. He was born in New York, NY and moved to Arizona 14 years ago from Oregon. He served his country in the US Army during WW II. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1999. Survivors include his daughter Maureen Jim Casterline; step-son Donald Gardner; step-daughter Susan Cunningham and grandson Shawn Gardner.

Joseph John Shall, 89, of Sun City, AZ passed away May 24, 2009. Mr. Shall was born in Gallitzin, PA and moved to Arizona in 1945. He retired from Salt River Project. He is survived by son William; daughters Maryann Jakubowski and Virginia Pitt; brother Frank; sister Ann; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Ruby Eileen Payton

Ruby Eileen Payton passed away peacefully on May 22nd, at the Sun Health Hospice in Sun City West at the age of 83.
Ruby was born in Shelbyville, Illinois on August 30th, 1925, as the youngest of eight children: Lloyd, Carl, Effie “Toots”, Burton “Burt”, Myrtle, Edith and Lela. Her father was Milton Abner Smith, a vegetable farmer, and her mother was Molly Pritchard.
During World War II she joined the Navy to train as a nurse. She was working at a hospital in East St. Louis just after the war ended when she met Donald Frederick Payton, a returned Navy medic who had served in the Pacific.
They were married on May 4th, 1946 and moved to Seattle where they had two children, Greg born in 1947 and Gary 1951. The family moved in the early 50’s to Phoenix and eventually settled down in Maryvale.
There, Ruby was a homemaker who sometimes took jobs outside the house, while her husband worked at repairing fighter jets at Luke Air Force Base and later as head of shipping and receiving at Valley hospitals. They both enjoyed dinners and card games with friends, and going to plays and shows. In the 60’s, the couple took up competitive dance roller skating, and even won medals in Arizona state championships.
After they retired, Ruby and her husband moved to Sun City in 1992. Don died of cancer in 1998, and Ruby, who for several years had had poor health due to cardiovascular problems, lived alone afterwards. She was not able to travel anymore, but always enjoyed visits from her family. She was very thankful for her friends at the senior center and her church, but especially for the good neighbors around her who constantly looked after her.
She is survived by her sons Greg and Gary, and four grandchildren: Sean, Josh, Quinn and Emmalie.

Hazel Louise Heeren

Hazel Louise Heeren, 95 born in Platt, SD July 17, 1913 and laid to rest May 21, 2009. Hazel resided in Sun City, AZ. She is survived by 2 sons, Robert Smith, Sun City, AZ, Larry Smith, Prescott, AZ and Lynn Heeren, Step-Son, Wyoming. Two daughters Betty Grauf, Omaha, Nebraska, Vicki Graham, Alexander City, AL and a half sister, Ruby Huffman, Platt, SD. 17 grand children and 22 great grandchildren. Hazel was a Past Worthy Matron of Peoria Chapter 59 OES and the 1st Bethel Guardian for Bethel 22. She will be missed by all. Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M. Susanne Kay Greenlee- Gastelum Tweety 53, of Glendale, AZ passed away May 21, 2009 with her family at her side. Tweety was a lovely mother of two sons and one daughter. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Iowa in 1973; she attended Iowa State University and Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa. She also graduated Summa cum laude from Nurses training in May 1991. She moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1995 and was employed as a certified occupational health nurse until her death. She married Jose Angel Gastelum in December 2004. She is survived by her husband Jose Angel, children Jeffrey, Joshua and Jacklyn Greenlee, her parents Mr. & Mrs. Charles Rather of Jefferson, Iowa, her sister Cynthia David Sielaff, nieces , nephews of Rathdrum, Idaho, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Susanne will be remembered lovingly by all her friends and relatives. Memorial Service will be 5:00 P.M. Harold Edward Stoops

Harold E. Stoops died May 20, 2009 at the Brookdale Senior Living Care Center in Peoria, Arizona. Harold was born on April 27, 1913 in Peoria, IL and recently celebrated his 96th birthday. He was the only child of Walter and Ethel Prohmer Stoops. He married Pauline Crow, his beloved wife, who preceded him in death, on October 19, 1940 in Peoria, IL.
Harold retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1978 after a 35 year career in the purchasing department. He continued to be a staunch supporter of the company throughout his life and was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club in the Sun City area. He was the most senior member of the club in attendance at the March 21, 2009 annual luncheon.
After moving permanently to Sun City in 1990, he was an active volunteer at the Westside Food Bank where he worked repairing appliances for the thrift store. Harold took great satisfaction in helping others and was proud of his contributions to the community. He was a member of the Lakeview Methodist Church and served on several committees.
An avid golfer, Harold had a live-long passion for playing and watching the game. He also was a member of the Wood Shop at the Sun City Recreation Center and enjoyed his Tuesday mornings working at the shop making items for their benefit sales.
Surviving are his two daughters, Linda Aeschliman of Peoria, IL and Sheila Hoffmeyer of Sedona, AZ ; his two sons, Walter of Lombard, IL and Lee of Urbana, IL; and two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
His memorial service will be held Friday, May 29 at 10 am at the Lakeview Methodist Church. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to Lakeview Methodist Church, 10298 W. Thunderbird Blvd. Sun City, AZ 85351. Menke Funeral Home handled arrangements

Lori Ann Hunt, 41 of Glendale, AZ passed away on 5/18/09. She was born in Willoughby, OH on April 17, 1968 and moved to Phoenix in 1971. Lori is survived by her husband Brian, 3 children, son Branden SPC in the US Army and daughters Brittney & Sami; father James Donna Lawton , mother Janet Tom Koshock, sisters Heather Jeff Faurot and Debbie Frank LoCascio, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Lori was a caring person with a big heart and had a passion for her work, reading and cooking. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Services will be held Tuesday, May 26th at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N 103rd Ave, Sun City at 10:00 AM with viewing from 9:00-10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
