Carlotta Bloom-Adams, 66, of Mayer, AZ passed away Sept. 25, 2009 in Peoria, AZ. Carlotta was born in Long Beach, California. She worked as a Medical Lab Technician’s Assistant. She came to Arizona in 1993 from California. She is survived by her sons David and Robin Burdick; daughters Debbie Oertel and Melina Secord and 9 grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ.

Burnett O. Cavasino, 89, of Surprise, AZ passed away Sept. 23, 2009 in Sun City West, AZ. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota. He served his country during WW II in the U.S. Air Force and was a Mechanic with United Airlines retiring after 27 years of service. Mr. Cavasino moved to Arizona 15 years ago from Washington. He is survived by his wife Myrtle; sister LaVern Colletta of Memphis, TN and many loving nieces and nephews. No services are planned.

On September 20, 2009 surrounded by family our father Robert Franklin Armer joined our mother in Heaven. Robert was born on November 29, 1935 in Compton, Arkansas to Gladys and Noah Armer. Robert served in the Navy from 1955-1963 earning two Good Conduct medals. He served on the USS Princeton from 1955-1959 as a Stationary Engineer and then of the USS Independence as a Gas-Compressor Operator from 1959-1963. For awhile he worked at General Mills where he co-invented Bugles brand chips and also was the first to suggest adding vitamins to breakfast cereal. He then worked for Air Liquide for 26 years as a Cryogenics Plant Engineer. Robert married his wife of 54 years in 1969. Together they raised 6 children. Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Janice Armer and both of his parents. He is survived by his children Heber Heidi, Boyd Sally, Darryl Tina, Randy Dawn, & Larry Carmen Armer and Darla Joe Fields; 4 sisters Mary Ann Bagby, Jetty Tom Baker, Carolyn David Sittner, Darlene Terry Jones; 2 brothers Jarvis & Michael Cindy Armer. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ. Donations are suggested to the American Lung Assn., 102 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85003.

Loving and dedicated husband, father, brother, and son. Robert passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 60 years young. He focused his life on his career and family. He spent more than 30 years with Mingus Constructors Inc. as general manager earning numerous construction awards. Bob enjoyed being active and outdoors, he loved hunting and fishing. He was an avid sports fan who held Cardinal’s season tickets for 20 years and rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed a good round of golf and playing poker with his friends. Bobs passion was his boys’ and being an intricate part of their interests, which included football and track, never missing an event.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Carol Nicol. They have two exceptional boys, Chris 27 and Jake 21. He is also survived by his mother Ruby, brother Mark, and sister-in-law Laurie. Preceding him in death was his father Allen Nicol. His greatest pride was his children. He made each and every day special. His family and friends, while they mourn his death, celebrate his beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. A viewing will be held Thursday, September 24th from 5-7pm. Services will be held Friday, the 25th at 11am at Menke Funeral Home located on 12420 North 103rd Ave., Sun City, Arizona 85351. There will be a celebration of Bob’s life immediately following the service at his home. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Dr. Peter K. Iber, Col US Army Ret.
Peter was born on the 26th of July 1937 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America. Peter achieved the Rank of Eagle Scout and continued as a Leader up until his retirement from the Army. Peter received his PHD from Johns Hopkins University in Bio Chemistry. Peter served in the Army for 32 years. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict from 1969-1970 and retired as a Colonel to Arizona in 1990. During his retirement, Peter worked as a tax preparer until his passing. He was also an avid Stamp Collector, and was the President of the Society Australasian Specialist Oceania and the editor for the Thai Philatelic Journal. Peter was taken into the Lord’s grace on September 16th, 2009.

Edward John Kurkowski, 75, of Sun City, AZ passed away Sept. 16, 2009. Edward was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He served his country in the U.S. Army. A Sun City resident for the past 8 years, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois; children Mark Sarah Kurkowski, Kay Wright and Paul Desi Kurkowski; brother Elbert Marylene Kurkowski; grandchildren Lindsay, Bradley & Lauren Kurkowski; Cristal & Rebecca Kurkowski and Rilee & Jackson Kurkowski. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. 82, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on September 15, 2009. She died at home with her family and friends by her side. She was born in Detroit, Michigan and worked for the General Motors Corporation for many years. She married Robert Bob Garbarino in 1952 and were together for 57 wonderful years. In 1974 they retired and moved to Arizona where Thelma was involved with the Phoenix Newcomers Club and played golf in the Bellair Women’s League.
She is survived by daughters Diana Garbarino David Manley and JoanneThompson Steve, grandchildren Amy Bartes, and Robert Thompson, sisters Muriel Myzskier and Violet Scannell.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, September 25, 2009 at Christ Church of the Valley, 7007 W Happy Valley Rd., Peoria, AZ
