In Memorial

Betty Jane Amos, born Jan. 9, 1923 in Lafayette, IN, the oldest of 3 children, passed away Oct. 17, 2017. Growing up, piano lessons were started at an early age and continued until graduating from high school, so music has always been part of her life, even though during her adult years she put it aside to pursue her career and resumed it again after retiring. She prepared for a teaching career, graduating from Purdue University in 1944. To help earn her way through college, she was able to find work at 25 cents/hour under Franklin Roosevelt’s NYA (National Youth Assn) program using typing and shorthand skills learned in high school. Her first teaching position was in a small rural school teaching math and social studies in grades 7-12. After teaching for 10 years she worked as a legal assistant. In 1964 she decided to return to teaching and worked on getting a Master’s degree in education taking night and summer classes for 2 years while teaching. After 26 years of teaching, she took an early retirement in 1980 to move to Arizona to be nearer her sister and brother and worked at Boswell Hospital until retiring in 1989. Thereupon she resumed her musical hobby and turned to playing the electronic organ, volunteering at various retirement facilities in and around Sun City. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at Good Shepherd Care Center Chapel, 10323 W. Olive Ave., Peoria, AZ.

I am sure miss Amos was my teacher at Boswell School. I hope I am correct. She was a great teacher and friend of all the students. She and another teacher took us to a Turkey Run State park. We had so much fun.
It probably been around 1946.

Condolence from Meryl on October 22nd, 2017 3:29 pm

What a beautiful person, Ms. Amos was. Please allow me to offer my condolences, by sharing a scriptural hope. “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also, he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” – Rev. 21:3-5. This is the hope of the resurrection. I am very sorry for your loss. May God’s Word, the Bible comfort the, Amos family and all those who loved, Ms. Betty.
