Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Ebye Saba, 86, of Litchfield Park died Sunday September 8th at Palm Valley Care Center. Ebye was born May 29th 1927 in the small farming community of Emory, Texas. Ebye graduated from Emory High School with the class of ’44 and continued her education in the city of Dallas studying business administration. Ebye met her future husband Dr. Phillip Z. Saba while he interned at Baylor University Medical Center in 1949 and they married in January of 1955 in Dallas. Ebye accompanied her husband to Rochester, New York where he continued his residency. In January of 1958 they arrived in Phoenix where she was an integral part of building his surgical practice which thrived for over 25 years until Dr. Saba’s retirement in 1986. They moved to Litchfield Park in January 1968, where Ebye was a regular at the Wigwam Tennis Club and known for her ferocious backhand. She was a sometimes reluctant Suns fan, an avid reader, historian and geographer and could make the best margarita this side of the Pecos. She loved to work on intricate needlepoint creations and her crocheted blankets are still keeping us warm. Her wit, her humor, her historical perspective and insightful musings on life will be missed and among our most cherished memories of her. She was peerless and without doubt, the best mom anyone could hope for. Thanks mom- we love you! As you always told us, be brave, be strong, be happy.
Ebye was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, and survived by her children Dr. Phillip Zaky Saba, Jr. Phyllis Zoe Saba, Khaleel Andrew Saba, and two grandchildren, Lauren and Zachary.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM September 20th, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Road, Avondale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in care of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.Print Obituary & Condolences
