Leona Kinder

December 31, 1969 — October 16, 2012

Devout Christian and Servant of the Lord….Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother has gone to be with Jesus. Leona was entered into rest on October 15, 2012, in Sun City, Arizona. Leona was born Clidie Leona Lamb in Jacksonville, Arkansas on August 10, 1919, to Roy and Willie (Brown) Lamb. She was a true “Daughter of the American Revolution”…(from the Brown’s side of the family). She grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Her mother passed away at an early age and she was raised by and helped her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Lamb raise her sister and brother. She was a graduate of Quachita College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She received her degree in Sacred Music from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and her Masters Degree in Music from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Leona was married to Troy Kinder for 27 years who preceded her in death in 1988. A long time Phoenix resident, Leona taught school in the Phoenix School Systems and taught music for over 50 years. Also a teacher, Troy taught 5th grade in the Alhambra School district. While off for the summers Leona and Troy made numerous missionary trips to a different state each year. They would help with housing construction, bible schools and more. One of the highlights of her life (other than her grandsons and great-grandson), was a trip to the Holy Land with TBN it was the “Best trip of her Life”. She greatly enjoyed her time at Evangel Church and the ladies that would “look” in on her from time to time. A great “outreach” church. Leona served as music director in various churches over her lifetime and sang in many choirs for the Billy Graham Crusades. Survivors include her son Scott Mitchell and his wife Linda; grandsons Bobby and Billy Mitchell; great-grandson Logan Mitchell; nieces Margaret Ann and Delilah and 1000’s of children who learned to appreciate music because of her. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at Evangel Church, 10701 Boswell Blvd., Sun City, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, Leona would have appreciated that your donations go to your favorite charity of choice.
