Martha Martin

December 31, 1969 — October 6, 2017

Martha Esther Martin 92, passed away Monday October 2, 2017 from a stroke at Peachtree Assisted Living Facility in Surprise, AZ. She was born April 18, 1925 at Advance, MO; daughter of Anna Schonhoff Martin and Albert Martin who are deceased. She was a graduate of Our Lady of the Angels High School of Wheaton, Illinois. She graduated from George Williams College of Downers Grove, IL and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work. Continuing her higher education Martha attended Sangamon State University and graduated with a Master Of Arts Degree in Human Development Counseling at Springfield IL. Martha is survived by one sister and one brother. They are Mary Wubker of O'Fallon, MO and C. A. Martin and wife Wilma of Advance, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. For years Martha worked at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield IL as a Chaplain and a team member of the Pastoral Care Dept. whose major role is Counseling. She Retired from there in 1993. Upon her retirement she eventually decided to live near her sister Catherine (Cathy) Lancour and brother-in-law, Charles (Chuck) whom resided in the Sun Cities of Arizona. She was happy because she was able to visit and do things with her sister Cathy and her brother-in-law who owned a home in Sun City West, AZ and travel and vacation with them and make new friends. Consequently she had a great retirement. She was a member of St Elizabeth Seton Church in Sun City, AZ and a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Martha will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, AZ with a private family interment.
