Fred Freda

July 5, 1942 — February 8, 2022

Ferdinand (Fred) Freda was born on July 5, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY, the only son of Ferdinand and Anna Freda. He grew up with two older sisters, Maryann and Margaret, and a younger sister Rosemary. After the loss of their father at a young age, Fred took on the responsibility of being a father, brother and friend they all needed. Fred was so proud, and so close with his family. In 1960 Fred joined the United States Navy where he served for over 30 years, including his time in the reserves, and retiring in 1986. Fred was also on the prestigious New York City Police Department, Precinct 70 in Brooklyn, where he proudly served for before retiring. He then joined the Mason Tenders Local 79 Union and worked NYC construction, until his retirement in 2007. He helped build some of the most beautiful high-rises in the city, and eventually became a Shop Steward for the Mason Tenders where he was known for his loyalty to his workers and for fighting for their union rights. The greatest day in Fred’s life is without a doubt June 29, 1986, the day he married Kathy, the love of his life. The one happiness in this life, was to love and to be loved. With Kathy, Fred found true happiness. He truly loved life and lived well. He traveled to numerous countries. He skiied the Swiss Alps. He enjoyed cooking and some of his favorite dishes were pizza and pasta. He loved good food, great friends and great conversation. Fred passed away on Feb 8, 2022. He is survived by his bride, Kathy, his sisters Maryann, Margaret and Rosemary, his in-laws Michael & Joan Kelly (Meghan and Timothy), Luis and Denise Mocete (Robert and Christopher), and his nephews (Brad and Glen Keely), niece (Lynn Maurer), and their children and spouses. His love for his family and friends was felt by all who knew him. He will be truly missed. The service will be Thursday February 17, 12pm at Menke Funeral Home in Sun City, AZ.
