Betty Frances (Breiten) Hassler

Betty Frances Hassler, 82, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away on September 5, 2025.

Born on October 5, 1942, in Tacoma, Washington, Betty was the daughter of Thomas Breiten and

Jean (Neilson) Breiten. She was a proud graduate of Stadium High School's class of 1960 and

maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates, enjoying many reunions over the years.

Betty continued her education at the University of Puget Sound, graduating in 1964. While there,

she was an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. It was also at Puget Sound that she

met her future husband, Jeff Hassler.

After marrying in 1965, Betty and Jeff moved to Anchorage, Alaska. For many years, Betty took

great pride in caring for her children before beginning her professional career. She managed

rental properties, worked for an accountant, and managed a small public relations office before

dedicating 10 years of service to the State of Alaska, including a period in Juneau.

In 2010, Betty and Jeff retired to Sun City, Arizona. She remained close to her friends in Alaska

while also building cherished friendships in her new community. She had a special talent for

giving just the right gift and wrapping it beautifully. She also adored her Maltese pup, Kirby,

who was her loyal companion for 15 years. Above all, Betty loved her family, especially her

grandchildren, and cherished the time they spent together.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Thomas, and her husband, Kent, of Anchorage; her

son, Jay Hassler of New York City; her sister Judy Richardson, and her grandchildren, Henry,

Emma and Amelia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jeff Hassler, in 2016.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers at The

Palms in Sun City and Hospice of the Valley for their kindness and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Betty’s memory can be made to Lutheran Social Services of

Alaska.
