Billie Louise Cox Wahlstrom Day was born on May 24, 1925, in the town of Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Laura and Otto Cox. As the oldest, Billie watched over her siblings Kenneth, Don, and Dorothy. In 1942 Billie married Winston Wahlstrom in Durham, North Carolina. Their 40-year love affair became the foundation for their family of six children until Winston’s death in 1983. In 1987 Billie’s family expanded when she married Norman Day at the end of a Sunday evening sermon in front of both sets of extended families and their church family.
Billie is survived by her children, Norman’s children, and their spouses: Ileen Wahlstrom, Bud Wahlstrom, Jim and Jenny Wahlstrom, Reed and Robyn Wahlstrom, Robin and Jerry Drury, Tina and Marc Johnston, Tom and Elaine Day, Terry Jo and Danny Dunlap, Vicki Day, Dan and Gudrun Beilfuss. Billie’s extended family includes 29 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren. She remembered all their names and birthdays and loved each of them in a special way.
Beloved matriarch and devoted follower of Jesus, Billie served her church families at Thomas Road Baptist Church, Starlight Park Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Sun City for over 50 years as an organist, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School volunteer. She was also a valued employee at Sunland Market, Dillards, and Western Christian School.
Billie recently celebrated her 100th birthday and continued to point her family to Christ until she was called to Glory on July 17, 2025. That day she joined Winston, Norman, Bobby, Vernon, and JR in joyful worship of their Savior in heaven. She was a 100-year-old champion, deeply loved and highly esteemed by a family who adored her.
