Brett Kendall Matheson was born on May 6, 1972 in Provo, Utah to Kendall and Beverly Miles Matheson. For the last several years of Brett's life, he faced many health challenges, resulting in his death at a young age of 53. Brett passed away May 5, 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona of Chronic Pancreatitis.
Brett passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, strength, humor, and fierce love for those closest to him.
Brett was a graduate of Taylorsville High School in Taylorsville, Utah. From the very beginning, Brett was a rambunctious soul who marched to the beat of his own drum, living life on his own timeline and on his own terms. He was spirited, independent, and never afraid to speak his mind. Brett loved his siblings fiercely and teased them just as passionately. Beneath his tough exterior was a deeply protective brother who would do absolutely anything for the people he loved, and he made sure everyone knew it. Brett deeply loved his wife and children very much, and was always so proud of each one of them and their accomplishments.
Brett shared a close and special bond with his parents throughout his life. Recently, he and his wife moved to Golden Valley, Arizona, along with their beloved dogs, to be closer to his mom and dad - something that brought them all great happiness and comfort.
Brett built a successful career in retail services and supermarket management, earning the respect of coworkers and customers alike through his strong work ethic and leadership. Brett started his career working for Food4Less and was the youngest store manager at the time. He eventually became the General Manager of the Pilot Truck Stop in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he took tremendous pride in his store, his team, and its success. Brett was dedicated to excellence and poured his heart into his work. Brett often spoke about the close relationships he built working in this capacity and the great friendships that had formed.
More than anything, Brett will be remembered for his loyalty, his larger than life personality, his humor, and the deep love he carried for his family and friends. His presence was unforgettable, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.Brett is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Tracee Matheson, his sons, Skyler (grandson Liam), Dallas and Austyn, bonus daughters Nacole (granddaughter Lillian) and Jara Ackerland, parents, brothers Jeff (Kristen), Robert (Amy), and sister, Kimberly Matheson-Graham (nephew Brayden Graham), extended family and in-laws. Brett is also survived by his childhood best friends Sam Kaiser and Chris Meyer.
The Matheson family would like to extend a special thank you to all of those who helped support Brett and Tracee during Brett's illness; Shad, Jammie, Jarrett, Wyatt, and Cole Matheson.
