Delfina A. Kunz passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fred; children Douglas (Leslie), Andrew (Karen), Eric, and Karen; six grandchildren-Ryan, Anna, Justin, Tyler, Jessica, and Griffin; her sisters Patricia O’Connell and Marina Tiano (Louis), and brother Steven diGirolamo (Christine Smith). She was predeceased by her parents, Fred diGirolamo and Katherine.
Del was born on July 8, 1940, in Washington, D.C., where she was raised and completed her secondary education at Sacred Heart Academy Parochial school, graduating in 1958. She pursued higher education at Trinity College on a scholarship but subsequently chose to embark on a career with the U.S. Department of Justice. In May 1961, she married Fred, who she grew up with. Del’s interests spanned literature, travel, needlework, cross stitching, and quilting with genealogical research being her foremost passion.
After relocating to Glendale, Arizona in 2001, she became an active member of the West Valley Genealogical library group. Over the following 24 years, she became an expert in genealogical research. She was also a moderator for group of 20+ German researchers and contributed to the Italian research group. Together with her husband, she traveled extensively, and in later years, she coordinated trips to sites connected to their ancestral birthplaces, residences, and final resting places.
Friends and family are invited to attend services at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 6801 W. Utopia Road, Glendale, Arizona, on Thursday, August 28th. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.
