On February 25, 2024, Don Vander Giessen entered the presence of the Lord.
Born on June 14, 1951, in Harvey, Illinois, Don was the beloved middle son of Hank and Marge Vander Giessen. He pursued his education at Calvin College, where he majored in Political Science before relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, in the early 1970s. It was here that he embarked on a successful career in Real Estate that spanned decades until his passing.
In the late 1970s, “fate” brought Don into the life of Jacqueline, a beautiful young widow with four children, 2 dogs, and a lot of “stuff”. They dated for 8 years before getting married and recently, on January 26th, celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
While Real Estate provided financial stability, Don's true passion lay in the study and teaching of scripture. In 2002, he achieved a significant milestone by graduating from Phoenix Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. He eagerly embraced opportunities to serve as a guest pastor or leading a Bible Study, sharing his profound love for God's word with others.
Don loved a good political discussion. He loved to read, write, and study, to travel and enjoy God’s beautiful creation– but mostly he loved his family! Don and Jacque's love story spanned over 47 years of shared joy and companionship as they cherished life's beautiful moments.
Don is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his daughters Jill, Jinger, Janine, and Jodi; his brothers Dave and Jack; and 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. We miss you already Papa!
In lieu of flowers, the family would love if you supported one of Don’s favorite ministries with a financial gift: Transformed For Life Uganda (www.transformedforlifeuganda.com). A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 am Saturday, March 23, 2024, at CopperHills Church (27035 Black Rock Blvd, Peoria, AZ 85383). We also encourage all who attend to wear green (Don’s favorite color) to honor him.
