Obituary

Edward Mencfeldowski passed away early on Thanksgiving morning, November 27th, 2025 after a brief Illness. Eddie as he liked to be called was born May 19, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Throughout his 103-years, his mind and sense of humor remained sharp.

In 1940 after graduating high school, he learned drafting in a class put on by the NYA (National Youth administration), a program started by President Roosevelt. In 1941 Ed began a 42-year career at Allis Chalmers. Eddie married the love of his life Rita (nee Zajac) in 1942. They were married almost 63 years. Coincidentally, Eddie was reunited with Rita on what would have been their anniversary.

In his younger days, Eddie enjoyed playing in bands switching between the accordion and drums, and even built his own drum set.

Eddie thoroughly enjoyed life and was always eager to learn well past achieving his century milestone. He was the first at Allis Chalmers to learn CNC machining. He carried this skill with him into his retirement and into his 90s, he was teaching the young (in their 60s) new members of the recreation center how to use the machine shop. He was an early adopter of computers and continued learning and embracing technology as it evolved.

He enjoyed working with his hands to build and create and in fact built his home in Wisconsin where he and Rita made their family.

Eddie liked to go fast, he had multiple Mustang cars in the 60s as well as motorcycles. He earned his pilot’s license and owned his own airplane so that he and Rita could fly to Michigan to see daughter Carol’s family. When he slowed down it was to draw or paint.

Eddie had a strong faith in God from his Catholic upbringing and continuing throughout his life. He was an usher in his younger years at St. Aloysius in West Allis and sang in the choir at St. Elizabeth Seton in Sun City, into his 80s.

Eddie was preceded in death by his wife Rita, parents Edward and Helen, brother Eugene and his wife Romona, sister Lorraine, and Son-in-Law Michael O’Neill.

Ed is survived by his Daughter Carol O’Neill of Sun City AZ, Grandchildren; Colleen (Rich) Vitale of Battle Creek Mi, Regan (Nicole) O’Neill of WI, Tracy O’Neill of Sun City Az, and Ryan (Michelle) O’Neill of Portage MI, Great-Grandchildren; Julia (Elias) Baruch of LaCross WI, Ian O’Neill of Kewaskum WI, Jack O’Neill and Nora O’Neill both of Portage Mi.

A Memorial Mass will take place in Wisconsin in June.
