George "Leroy" Vines, a beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2026, his 87th birthday, in Glendale, Arizona. Born on January 19, 1939, in Globe, Arizona, Leroy's life was marked by creativity, joy, and a deep connection to those around him.
As an Independent Landscape Architect, Leroy dedicated his professional life to beauty and design, while also contributing his engineering talents to APS, where he designed power line grids. His career was a testament to his commitment and ingenuity, reflecting his artistic spirit and meticulous nature.
Leroy possessed a vibrant personality that drew people in. He was renowned for his love of music, especially bluegrass and old country tunes, often sharing joyful moments performing with friends. A skilled woodworker, he created stunning pieces that showcased his artistic abilities, turning simple wood into memorable art. Leroy truly embraced life, indulging his passions for music and travel, always seeking new experiences and the company of loved ones.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, cherished by his family: his wife, Charlene “Charly” Vines; his children, Bob Vines (Cathy), Carol Harris-Stirnes (Bobby), and David Vines; grandchildren, Rebecca Vines, Tyler Harris, Michael Vines (Jeannine), and Cody Harris; and great-granddaughter, Etta Vines. Leroy's pride in his family was evident through his every endeavor, and his marriage and children stood as his proudest accomplishments.
Leroy was also a prankster who was never shy to bring smiles to those around him. His genuine affection for people made him a beloved figure in his community, and his warmth will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Leroy on February 16, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 8840 N 61st Ave, Glendale, Arizona, starting at 10:30 AM and concluding at 11:30 AM.
Leroy's spirit will undoubtedly continue to resonate in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, as we remember a man whose life was rich with love, laughter, and creativity. As we gather to celebrate his life, we find comfort in the memories shared and the legacy he leaves behind.
