Glenda
Thompson
Jul 3, 1935 — Jul 29, 2026
Glenda Louise Thompson passed peacefully on July 29, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on July 3rd, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Clara Ione Wright and Herbert Bentley
Roberts. Glenda married Richard Thompson in 1956 and together they celebrated 64 years of marriage. In 1959, they moved to Mason City, Iowa where they raised their four children.
Glenda was a homemaker and later worked with autistic children and at risk teens. Glenda left this world after living a life that was unmistakably her own. She wasn't one to fade quietly into the background. Feisty, opinionated and never afraid to speak her mind, she told you exactly what she thought. Her quick wit and sharp sarcasm could make you laugh or occasionally leave a mark, but those who best understood her, knew it was simply who she was.
She found joy in the things she loved most: competing on the golf course, cheering for her beloved Phoenix Suns, pampering her spoiled cats, or lifting her voice in the church choir. Music brought her comfort and connection, and her Christian faith remained an important part of her life.
Above all else she loved her husband, Richard. Together they shared a life filled with companionship, laughter and devotion to God and each other. They enjoyed traveling to gospel and barbershop singing competitions and hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Richard left an empty spot in Glenda’s heart when he passed in 2021.
Glenda is survived by her son Rich (Julie), her son Nathan Lane, her daughter Kimberly (Dean), her son Chris, seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Glenda will be missed by her family, friends and all whose lives were touched by her. To honor her memory, spend time with those you love, cheer on your favorite team, sing a favorite hymn, or enjoy a day on the golf course just as she would have wanted
