J. Harper

February 28, 1941 — July 17, 2019

Jessie Leyon Harper “Leyon” was born to parents J. and Dortha in Bremen, KY on February 28, 1941. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sue Harper of over 40 years, his children Jess (Rhonda), Renee, Todd (Robin), Lynn (Matt), and Melissa (Lo), his sister Sarah, his grandchildren Bethanee, Jessie, Paige (Dan), Emily, and Samuel, and great-grandson Sawyer. Leyon is also survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he proudly loved. Leyon loved his country and served in the United States Army as a Pfc. Marine Police Officer. Throughout his life, he worked with in multiple industries, including owning and running his pasty shop, Pasty King, working as an assemblyman for Ford Motor Company, and providing childcare to students within the Woodhaven School District Latchkey Program. Leyon also volunteered his time and service as an Usher at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church in Woodhaven, MI. Leyon’s love and life was filled by the joy of being a loving husband, supportive father, devoted grandfather, generous mentor and faithful servant of the Lord. He enjoyed good food, college football, traveling the country with his wife, friends, and family, and was an avid photographer. Leyon touched the hearts of those around him with his witty sense of humor, playful sarcasm, youthful spirit, and through the guidance he willfully shared with others. The legacy he has left behind is of a fair, hardworking, proud, dignified, dedicated and extraordinary man. On the morning of July 17, 2019 in his Sun City, Arizona home, God graciously gave Leyon his wings and he was welcomed into heaven by his loving parents, son Christopher, and granddaughter Kortnee. Leyon was a gentle, kind and simple man who loved and appreciated life. He was quietly strong and his solid legacy will continue to inspire those who were lucky to have known him. He was a true gift from God that will forever live through his wisdom and grace, and the many memories he has planted in our hearts. Forever in our hearts and always in our memories, Jessie Leyon Harper In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and St. Vincent De Paul, as Leyon had wished.
