James Eugene Grohusky, Jr.
July 4, 1946 – May 27, 2025
Surprise, Arizona
With deep sorrow and enduring love, we announce the passing of James Eugene Grohusky, Jr., who left this world on May 27, 2025. He was 78 years old.
Jim was born on July 4, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, to James E. Grohusky, Sr. and Mary H. Thompson. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 60 years, Halina (Ratuszynski) Grohusky.
A proud graduate of Bishop Ward High School, Class of 1964, Jim met Halina during those formative years—she would graduate the following year, and their love story began.
Jim began his professional journey as an insurance agent with MFA Insurance Company. As his family grew, so did his ambitions. He earned an engineering degree from the University of Kansas and went on to found his own construction company, designing and building homes across the Kansas City area. A rare talent among general contractors, Jim was able to both design and draft his own plans. He later earned a second degree from Donnelly College and, in the final chapter of his career, served as a building inspector for the Wyandotte County Unified Government until his retirement. In retirement, Jim and Halina relocated to Surprise, Arizona, where they have spent the past 12 years. Never one to be idle, Jim continued creating—crafting furniture and cabinetry in the village woodshop and offering his expertise through part-time consulting.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Gretchen Mikesic (Michael), Lisa Grohusky, and Jamie Grohusky; his eight grandchildren: Malorie Mikesic, Kyle Fisher (Karli), Thomas Fisher (Tiffany), Asher Mikesic, Amanda Enloe (Blackie), Connor Mason, Hannah Mason, and Tyler Mikesic; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Above all, Jim leaves behind a legacy of integrity, humor, and a deep commitment to always doing your best. His stories, laughter, good food and steady presence will be missed by all who knew him.
