With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so abundantly lived, we remember Jerome Martin Kavanagh of Sun City West, Arizona, who passed away on July 30, 2026, at the age of 85. Born April 13, 1941, in DeGraff, Minnesota, Jerome’s journey through life was marked by rich experiences, unwavering kindness, and enduring devotion to family and community.

Jerome’s early years set the foundation for his remarkable character. After graduating from Benson High School in 1959, he embarked on a fulfilling professional life. His hands shaped the world around him first as a welder, demonstrating a craftsman’s care and dedication. Later, Jerome found his calling behind the wheel, driving for UPS where he proved himself a tireless worker and an outstanding Union Stewart—always a strong advocate for his colleagues, always willing to lend a helping hand.

On August 10, 1968, Jerome married the love of his life, Patricia Galarneault. Their marriage, a partnership of nearly six decades, was filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together, they built a family that was always Jerome’s proudest accomplishment: their daughter Bridgett Jeidy, sons Brian Kavanagh and Jason Kavanagh, and the legacy of his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all held dearly in his heart.

Beyond work and family, Jerome’s life was a testament to community spirit and joyful living. For 17 years, he was an active member of the Sun City Prides, giving his time generously and working side by side with others to improve the neighborhood he loved. Whether on the golf course perfecting his swing, out on the lake fishing, or outdoors mowing—one of his favorite pastimes—Jerome delighted in life’s simple pleasures and found happiness in nature’s embrace. He loved tinkering with numerous projects, always eager to fix what was broken or make something new, with a twinkle in his eye and a quiet confidence that inspired those around him.

The Kavanagh home was a gathering place filled with Jerome’s stories—told with humor and heart—and never short on adventure (and if you know Jerry you know the story). Many remember fondly the camping trips taken in the blue family camper/bus, where laughter echoed in the woods and memories were made under the stars. Family travels brought everyone closer together, creating bonds and traditions that endure.

Known for his compassion and his gift for conversation, Jerome could talk to anyone. He made friends wherever he went, sharing wisdom and encouragement, quick with a smile or a word of support. He led by example, demonstrating gentleness, humor, and the invaluable gift of being present for those he loved.

Jerome was predeceased by his parents, Marcellus and Alice Kavanagh; his brother, Michael Kavanagh; his sister, Patricia McConville; his brother, Steve Kavanagh; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Kavanagh. Their memories live on in Jerome’s enduring spirit and the stories lovingly recounted by those still here.

He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia, their children Bridgett Jeidy, Brian Kavanagh, and Jason Kavanagh, as well as his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry his legacy forward.

A Funeral Service in honor of Jerome will be held on August 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement of Rome Church, 15800 N Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351. Immediately following the service, a reception will take place at Menke Funeral Home & Cremation Center’s Sun City Reception Room, 10305 W Coggins Drive, Sun City, AZ 85351, where family and friends will gather to share memories, comfort one another, and celebrate a life so beautifully lived.
