John W. Myers Sr. a proud Arizona native, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 7, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona, John was raised in Glendale, where he developed the values of hard work, loyalty, faith, and family that guided him throughout his life.
On June 9, 1967, John married the love of his life, Linda K. Hospodka. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two children, John Jr. and Shannan. They shared 44 wonderful years of marriage until Linda's passing on October 26, 2011. John found love again and married longtime family friend Ruthie on July 13, 2023, in a small chapel in Sturgis, South Dakota. Together, they enjoyed traveling, riding the Harley with family and friends, and spending their summers in the beautiful mountains of Pinetop-Lakeside.
John dedicated 27 years of service to the Surprise Police Department, serving from 1974 until his retirement in 2001. Beginning his career as a patrol officer, he quickly rose through the ranks through hard work, leadership, and integrity, ultimately retiring as Captain. His commitment to protecting and serving his community earned the respect of both his fellow officers and the citizens he served.
An avid outdoorsman, John looked forward each year to traveling to Colorado with his brother for their cherished pheasant hunting trips. Whether hunting, riding his Harley, golfing, telling one of his legendary jokes, or simply spending time with those he loved, John embraced life with enthusiasm and a generous heart. Above all else, John was devoted to his family. He was the best husband, father, grandpa, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend anyone could ask for. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, make them feel welcomed, and leave lasting memories. Those who knew him understood that he truly was one of a kind.
John was the youngest of seven children, preceded in death by his parents, William Myers and Virginia Hughes; his brother, William "Bill" Myers; his sisters, Mary Ann Bailey and Betty Thorley; and other beloved family members who welcomed him home. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Ruthie Myers; his son, John Myers Jr. and wife April; his daughter, Shannan and husband Scott Belter Sr.; his step daughter, Heather Mayton and husband Hubert; his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Tanner, Nick, Scott Jr., and Lillian; his step grandchildren, Brittany, Cole, and Jessika; his step great grandchildren, Izzelli and Jack; his brother, Chuck; his sisters, Margaret and Virginia; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
John's legacy of love, laughter, dedication, and service will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his stories, his smile, and the countless lives he touched will never be forgotten.
