Obituary

Linda Carol McClentic, who filled the lives of many with music, passed away on April 19, 2026 at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona. Born October 2, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri, Linda was the daughter of Betty Marie (Carter) Wheat and Richard David Wheat. Linda's life was a testament to the power of family, music, love and faith.

Linda attended high school in Norwood, Massachusetts, where she developed her skills and passion for music. This led her to the Greater Boston Youth Symphony and later to the Boston Conservatory of Music, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music in 1972. In later years she was a church organist and pianist, roles she cherished. Linda also performed as a cellist in several orchestras including the Wellesley Symphony, the Greater Boston Chinese Music Ensemble (MA), and the Sun Cities (AZ) Community Orchestra where she was a member for more than 20 years.

In 1995, Linda married Roger H. McClentic a music educator and gifted bassoonist. They resided for a time in Rockland MA, then in 2003 moved to the Phoenix area where they became active in various churches as choir director and organist respectively. Roger passed before her and Linda spoke often of her memories of their shared life, musical adventures and travels.

Linda is survived by her brother Bruce Wheat, sister-in-law Jeanne Davis, niece Savita Wheat and nephew Cory Wheat of Vermont. They were all lights in her life, as were her extended family and cousins spread across Missouri, Washington and Texas. Linda’s family was a source of great joy for her and she looked forward to every gathering and celebration they shared.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Linda's life will be held on June 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church, 11025 N 111th Ave, Sun City, AZ 85351. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this church.

Linda's legacy is one of grace, kindness, and dedication to the arts. Her music will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to experience it, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace, embraced by the harmony she so beautifully brought into the world.
