In Loving Memory of Linda Chumley
September 20, 1952 – October 18, 2026
Linda Chumley, 74, passed away on October 18, 2026, in Arizona, following a courageous 12-year battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, Linda demonstrated incredible strength, resilience, and determination, facing life's challenges with the same spirit that defined her throughout her life.
Linda was born on September 20, 1952, in Brownfield, Texas, to Leon and Birtie Ellison. After the passing of her first husband, Ronnie Sewell, Linda married Hugh “Scooter” Chumley, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and countless memories.
In 1976, Linda and her family moved to Alaska, where they made their home and created lasting friendships and memories. During the last ten years, Linda and Scooter enjoyed splitting their time between their homes in Alaska and Arizona.
Linda was truly one of a kind. She was funny, outspoken, strong-willed, generous, and always ready for an adventure. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind, stood firmly for what she believed in, and had a heart as big as her personality. Those who knew Linda knew exactly where they stood with her, but they also knew that her love and loyalty ran deep.
Above all else, Linda's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved fiercely and unconditionally, and nothing meant more to her than being surrounded by the people she loved. She was the heart of her family, always wanting everyone together, sharing laughter, and making memories.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held an especially precious place in her heart. She absolutely adored them, and there was little she wouldn't do for them. She loved spoiling them, making them laugh, sharing her opinions whether they asked for them or not, and being part of every moment she could. Time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable happiness, and the love she poured into their lives was boundless. They were her pride and joy, and each of them will carry a special piece of her with them forever.
Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Hugh “Scooter” Chumley; her children, Rodney (Kristine), Rhonda (Brian), Ray (Jenny), and Randy (Anna); her beloved grandchildren, Braden (Nicole), Ray, Autumn, Clayton, Landen, and Emma; and her precious great-grandchildren, Paisley and Aubree.
She is also survived by her sisters, Karen, Eula, Teresa, and Laura Ann; her brothers, LD and Michael Ray; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Linda was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronnie Sewell; her parents, Leon and Birtie Ellison; her sisters, Sue, Dorothy, and Joanne; and her brother, Thomas.
Linda leaves behind a legacy far greater than words can express. Her strength, laughter, fierce love, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her family will forever carry the love she gave so freely and the memories of a life lived on her own terms.
Alaska was more than just a place Linda lived; it was home. She loved Alaska deeply, and no matter where her travels took her, there was nowhere else she would rather be. In keeping with her love for the place she called home, Linda will be brought back to Alaska, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life. A memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
She loved fiercely, lived boldly, and left a lifetime of memories. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
