Obituary

Merville “Mert” McLain of Peoria, AZ passed away September 3, 2017 peacefully at home. Mert was born in Muskegon, MI on January 23, 1937. Mert was 10 years old when he and his family moved to Arizona. As a teenager he worked for Grand Ave. Produce and then spent the next 20 years with Associated Grocers. After retiring from AG he enjoyed driving for Super Shuttle for the next 2 years until he suffered a stroke in 1993. Mert was a life member of Peoria Lodge 31, where he served as Master two times. He was also active in the Order of Eastern Star-Peoria Chapter 59; there he served as the Worthy Patron five times. He was also a member of Scottish Rite. Mert was preceded in death by his parents Grant and Gilberta McLain. Brothers Earl, Robert & Ty and sister Charlene Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Hyla. Daughters Renee Zahniser (Leann DuVall), Dawn Zahniser (Scott Brown) and son Ed Zahniser. Grandchildren Justin Riley (Brandie), Chase Sapp (Lauren), Chelsea Sapp, Devyn Hummer (Brian), Loren Carlson and Eddie Zahniser III. Great-grandchildren Sophia & Sullivan Riley, Emmy, Chase Jr., Kade & Kash Sapp, Lyla Langlois, Bryson, Corbin & Nova Hummer and Elizabeth & Cali Carlson. Visitation will 9-11:AM Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ with private interment to follow.
