Mona L.
Britt
Aug 24, 1932 — Jul 20, 2026
Peoria, Arizona
Mona Britt, whose strength, independence, and faith touched everyone who knew her passed away peacefully in Peoria Arizona on July 20, 2026.
Mother was born in Petersburg Nebraska on August 24, 1932 to William and Delores Reicks, but grew up in Caroll Iowa where she went to the same Catholic school for 12 years. She met her husband ED Britt and married in 1954. In 1963 mom and dad packed up the family and moved to Phoenix Arizona for a better life and new adventures. There mother was active in Cub Scouts, she opened a pizza shop in the 70s, and taught religious education at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church for twenty years. Dad passed in 1999, and a few years later Mother moved to a new home on a corner lot in Sun City Arizona.
This is where her next adventure began. She became active in all things Sun City! She loved yoga, pool walking, knitting, and became president of the rosary makers club at Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic Church. Mom loved her Sundays, she was always up for a visit from family, friends, and a good sunday dinner. The back patio is what mother loved best about her little condo on a corner lot in Sun City. She tended her tomato and pepper plants. She always had a succulent to divide and replant. Mom loved sitting in the sun doing her crossword and jumble puzzle books. She would read every Readers Digest from cover to cover. She waved to everyone walking and driving by. People would stop their cars and asked if they could pick oranges, she always said YES! She would even offer the use of her picking tool. Great friendships were made. Couples kept coming back year after year, until they didn't. When moms little condo got be too much she moved into an assisted living center in Peoria Arizona.
This was the beginning of moms last adventure here on earth. She loved the food, craft time, and happy hour. She was able to pray the rosary and have communion. She was part of a community again and she blossomed! She missed her dog Honey very much, but sadly over time even Honey faded from her memory. On July 20, 2026 she woke and got ready to go to the dinning room for breakfast. She grabbed her walker and off she went. The dinning room hadn't opened yet so she sat down on a couch, picked up a magazine and waited. Mother passed peacefully on the couch and instead had breakfast in heaven.
Our Mother left a legacy of Love, Strength, and Service to Others, now carried on by her seven children, numerous grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She built and lived a wonderful life deepened by her faith.
You will be deeply missed Mother, thank you for your gift of Love.
Services for Mona Britt will be in the fall of this year.
