Obituary

Norma Arlene Doyle, a devoted mother, cherished wife, and beloved member of her communities, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Peoria, Arizona. Born on October 25, 1936, in Elgin, Illinois, Norma's life was marked by quiet strength, thoughtful care, and an enduring devotion to her family and passions.

A graduate of Dundee High School in Illinois, Norma pursued her calling in education at Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois, earning her teaching degree. She began her career as a grade school teacher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she shaped young minds with kindness and patience. After embracing motherhood, she shifted her focus, later serving as a teacher’s aide in the Waukesha, Wisconsin school system—supporting students at Blair Elementary and lending her talents as a foreign language lab aide at Waukesha South High School. Norma also contributed as an assistant teacher’s aide and secretary at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Grade School in Waukesha.

Throughout these professional roles, Norma’s heart remained with her family. Married to her high school sweetheart, Kenneth F. Doyle, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage, she gracefully balanced her dedication to education with the vibrant chaos of raising three children: Kevin (married to Pat), Karyn Fricke (married to Steve), and Kathy Cibrario (married to Mark). Her loving presence extended further to her grandchildren, Karl Doyle (Margo), Kyle Cibrario (Paula), and great-grandson Caleb Cibrario, as well as granddaughter Kaci Cibrario. Norma’s home was a welcoming sanctuary, always open to her children’s friends, where the warmth of family and the laughter in the midst of lively gatherings created treasured memories.

Norma’s caring and considerate nature radiated in all aspects of her life. She championed her children’s every endeavor—from cheering them on at sporting events and club activities to sharing in their hobbies and daily routines. Her devotion was perhaps most playfully illustrated on those early Sunday mornings when she would drive the family station wagon brimming with papers on her son’s paper route while he braved the heavy Sunday edition—a testament to her quiet support behind the scenes.

Beyond her family and career, Norma nurtured a rich tapestry of interests. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she lent it to school and church choirs, her melodies echoing the gentle spirit she carried. An avid bowler, Norma’s passion for the sport blossomed well into her 80s. She made history within her family, notably converting the challenging 7-10 split at the age of 72 and achieving an all-spare game. She gratefully took part in the Women’s National Bowling Championship tournaments alongside her daughters Karyn and Kathy, and later with her granddaughter Kaci, with these cherished moments symbolizing not only her competitive spirit but the enduring bond of family.

A lover of the arts, Norma found joy in crafting and crocheting both at home and through church activities. She hosted home Bible study groups, fostering spiritual growth and community. Her Arizona patio was a serene sanctuary adorned with carefully tended flowers, particularly her beloved roses, which stood as living emblems of her nurturing soul. Her voracious reading habit inspired her children’s lifelong love of books. Additionally, Norma generously gave her time volunteering at Spring Training for the Peoria Diamond Club, sharing in her community’s vitality.

Norma’s gentle and caring personality, her quiet thoughtfulness, and her unwavering consideration for others left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy is built not only on her accomplishments but on the love and kindness she freely gave throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Eleonor (Steege) Wenholz, and her sisters, Lois Schuhr and Judy McClellan, whose memories she treasured deeply.

A Celebration of Life to honor Norma’s remarkable journey will be held on May 15, 2026, at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, located at 15630 N Del Webb Blvd in Sun City, Arizona. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and conclude at noon, providing a sacred space for family, friends, and community to share stories, memories, and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived.

Norma Doyle’s story is one of unwavering dedication—to family, to service, and to the simple joys of life. She touched countless hearts with her grace, strength, and love, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire and comfort those who were privileged to know her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered as a truly remarkable woman.
