Obituary

Paul Quitney, 86, of Sun City Arizona but a long-time resident of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Royal Oaks Life Care Community in Sun City Arizona. He was born on January 3, 1940, in Lowry Minnesota to Roy and Ruth Quitney.

Paul was united in marriage to Jane Murphy in July of 1964. He is survived by his wife, sisters Helen Hoium and Ruth McIver, along with many nieces and nephews. On his wife’s side, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Lillesve and nephew, Doug Lillesve (Carol Jenkins).

Paul graduated from high school in Glenwood Minnesota, and got his teaching degree at St Cloud State University. His teaching career started in 1961 at the Grand Rapids Middle School where he taught mathematics until 1981 when he transferred to the high school where he continued to teach math. He retired in 1996.

Paul enjoyed the outdoors which included fishing, hunting, and sports - baseball, softball and golf. After his retirement he pursued woodworking and their home is filled with beautiful handcrafted furniture as well as many small decorative and useful items. Many of his projects made their way into homes of other families as well. If he was presented with a problem that he didn’t have the right tool for, Paul had the ability to create a tool to do a job. Those tools weren’t pretty but they worked and became known as Uncle Paul Gimps or UPG’s.

Starting in 2006, Paul and Jane became winter residents in Sun City AZ returning to their home near Grand Rapids for the summers. In 2019, they made the decision to relocate year around to Sun City, but Paul always remained a loyal fan of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and U of M Gophers.

No services are planned. Arrangements were made through Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, Sun City, AZ
