Obituary

Philip Leslie Ledyard, born June 18, 1941, died May 27, 2026.

Phil was born in. Sparta MO, where his parents served as home missionaries, involved in church planting.

He graduated from Centreville (MI) High School in 1959. He earned a drawing design certificate from Tri State College, an Associates Degree from Jackson Community College, and a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and Business from Spring Arbor University in 1979.

Phil married his high school sweetheart, Carlene Slaymaker, in 1962. Together they raised three children, taking joy in their academic and employment successes. He worked 37 years for Aeroquip Corporation, Aerospace Group, retiring in 1997. He spent the final 18 years in Quality Engineering, with oversight responsibilities for the Aerospace Group plant and interface with government entities and civil air authorities.
He earned certification as a Quality Auditor and Quality Engineer, serving as President of the Jackson-Lansing Area section of ASQC, leading the team to national top chamber recognition.

Phil drew strength from his relationship with. His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served in various capacities with three different churches, on their deacon boards. With Carlene, they worked for several years as volunteers at the Rio Bible Institute; as members of SOWERs (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready); and as participants in short term mission assignments in Canada, Mexico, and throughout the USA.

Phil served on local government boards, including two terms as Village President in Concord, MI. He led in the building of a new fire station and in the development of a Park and Recreation Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlene, and his sister Sharon Stimer. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Ledyard (Sun City, AZ), Mark Ledyard (Ashville, NC), and Leslie Veen (San Francisco, CA).
