Robert L. Mittino

January 29, 1941 — June 6, 2023

Robert Louis Mittino, 82 of Sun City, Arizona, formerly of Allen Park Michigan, passed away peacefully June 6, 2023, with his loving wife Judy at his side.

Bob was born January 29, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Louis and Lina Mittino.

Though he grew up in Allen Park, Michigan, Bob’s earliest days were spent in the Oakwood neighborhood of Detroit. He fondly remembered the Italian-American community that surrounded him in his early childhood.

In 1959, he graduated from Allen Park High School and went on to Eastern Michigan University, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business. Having participated in ROTC at Eastern, he proudly entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant. During the Vietnam War, he honorably served in Thailand in the Signal Corps.

Bob was the first university graduate in his family and went on to build a career at Ford Motor Company in IT systems. He was active in the community, dedicating many years to youth development. He served as a coach in various youth sports leagues and as an adult leader in both the Boy Scouts of America, YMCA Adventure Guides and Princesses, and participated in mentoring through The Guidance Center.

Described by close friends as “a great friend who you could count on for anything, especially a good time.” He could make anyone feel like family. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.

After family and friends, his loves were golf, bowling, cigars, a good drink, wood carving, Rock and Roll, dancing, good Italian food, travel, and classic cars, especially his red ‘89 Firebird. Bob enjoyed canoeing and fishing on the Au Sable River near their cabin in Tawas, Michigan. He loved his dogs and cats. He was also a Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy enthusiast.

He was a loving husband to Judy Mittino and a caring older brother to Raymond Mittino (Judy) and Lois Mittino Gray (James).

Bob is survived by his children with Beverlee Lindeen, Matthew (Veronica), Adam (the late Sarah), and Aimee (Marcus), and stepchildren Jennifer Renard (Kent) and Michael Moran (Robyn). He is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was known as Nonno (Grandfather) to Nicole, Luca, Rocco, Ellee, AJ, Leanne, Sofia, Anthony, Vincenzo, Sydney, Coby, Hazel, and Gracie.
