Martha Nell Beckett was born in Florence Alabama on August 7th, 1934. She was a sister of seven - three brothers and four sisters. At the age of 16, Martha moved to Glendale Arizona to live with her best friend - Frances.
Roger Eugene Beckett was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on November 1st, 1934. Oldest of three boys and four sisters. At the age of 15, Roger and his family moved to Glendale Arizona.
When they met, Martha was working at neighborhood "Pullmans" corner soda fountain drugstore. She did not go un-noticed by this young grocery store employee and he would often stop by. The relationship bloomed when Roger pulled up and asked if he could driver her home. They married May 30th, 1954.
Roger often told us the story of when he was the grocery store manager and Martha was working at the corner drugstore. How the reception was held at his store and the lobby was cleared to make room for food, beverages and dancing. It wasn't long, this amazing couple started their family. When done - they were a family of two girls and two boys; Vicki Lynn, Debbie Diane, Roger Eugene Jr. and John Walter, in that order.
While together addressing the challenges of raising a young family, Roger continued in his grocery store managing career and deacon of the local First Baptist Church while Martha took care of the home and kids.
They decided to shift direction, one that they could both build and work together, this was the beginning of R&M Secondhand. The adventure continued with the selling of their Maryvale home and converting part of their R&M location into a living space. While the operating of R&M, the construction had begun on their "forever home." After the completion of their Forest Lakes Home, R&M was closed and they moved to the north country.
Roger and Martha were never ones to let grass grow under their feet and always needed to stay busy. Roger became the Assistant fire chief of the Forest Lakes volunteer fire department, representative of the water department as well as caretaker of the community library. Martha stayed busy with the community "burn pit."
In 2010, Martha and Roger decided that winters of Forest Lakes had lost its luster and decided to move to Payson. They continued to live in Payson until 2020 where they then decided to move to Phoenix, closer to family. Moving in with daughter Vicki and husband, Gary. There they both lived till Martha was taken home to the Lord in 2022 and Roger on October 20th of this year.
They shared stories, memories and of their adventures from their 68 years of marriage at each event and family gathering. They overflowed with patience, wisdom, experiences and love - not just for their family but for everyone they met.
We are sure the Lord has them both in positions of prominence. Rewarding them for their endless devotion to Him.
They are preceded in death by Mother & Father of Martha, Jesse & Ora, and Roger's Mother & Father, John & Margret. Roger's Brother's & Sister, Raymond, Tommy & Cindy.
They are survived by Daughter's, Vicki Lynn (Gary), Debbie Diane, Roger Eugene Jr. (Peggy), John Walter. Grandchildren, Jeremy, Brandy, Shane, Toby Jennifer. Chaz, Mckenna. Great-Grandchildren; Jacqueline, Bayley, Gauge, Emma, Wesley, Ally, Jasmine, Selina, Anthony, Leilani, Mateo, Giovanni. Great Great- Grandchildren; Kyden, Lily, Zac, Justice and Caida.
How much they will both be missed.
