ROSEMARY LORETTA [CAMPION] LAMBIE was born in Willow City, North Dakota in 1935 on March 6th. There were 8 members in Rosemary’s family. They included mother, EDNA, father, RAYMOND, sisters, ELIZABETH [Betty], MARY JANE [Bug], KATHERINE [Kitty], and brothers, PATRICK [Pat] and EUGENE [Mike]. Rosemary was known to all as SIS.
Rosemary was born at home in Willow City, ND as her mom could not get to the hospital due to heavy snow. Willow City was a small city in Bottineau County near the Canadian border. The county residents total approximately 475 at the time she was born and during her early childhood. Rosemary attended school at Norte Dame Academy – a two-story school and dormitory for farmer’s children to live in which was run by Catholic nuns. Rosemary and her siblings would walk to school each day as they did not live too far away. Rosemary’s father was the Post Master General and her mother a baker & also worked part time in the Post Office.
When Rosemary was in middle school her family moved to Minneapolis, MN. She finished High School in Minnesota and did not return to school until much later in life as Rosemary had other plans – TRAVEL.
Some of happiest memories throughout her life were the places that she visited. And it all started right after she saved enough money to begin her first journey. So of course, she needed to work. One of her first jobs was at Egekvist Bakery, a Danish bakery run by 2 brothers in Minneapolis. Some of her other occupations were banking – and Rosemary also joined the Marine Corps Reserve. Yes, it’s true and received an Honorable Discharge for the time she served.
Now back to the travel, she hated the cold where she grew up and she still hates being cold to this day. So, Rosemay and her 2 best girlfriends headed out on various adventures to Florida, New Orleans, Cuba and finally ended up in Phoenix as her car broke down in Phoenix, AZ. So, she quickly picked up a job at the Valley National Bank. Rosemay, at the age of 20, fell in love with her husband ROBERT. Robert also was working at the Valley National Bank and after a short period of dating the two were married in downtown Phoenix at St. Mary’s Basilica in the middle of August 1955,
Rosemary’s most memorable experience as a new couple was to buy a NEW home and begin their life together. They started their family immediately and never looked back. Family was now the most important thing in their lives. Together they had 3 children with Debra arriving first, Cynthia next and Robert last. They lived, TRAVELED the world, and loved each other for 55 years, before her loving husband passed away. Both Rosemary and Robert retired from Valley National Bank where they met; however, in the late 1950’s when Rosemary was having her children some places of employment made them quit early. So,
Rosemary helped her family financially by babysitting other children in the neighborhood and then working at the nearby grade school in the cafeteria when her own children started attending school. She returned to Valley National Bank full-time after her children were much grown and she retired from VNB in 1990.
Rosemary’s family has grown to: 3 children and their spouses, 4 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren. Most of them still live in the AZ vicinity. The best times of Rosemary’s life have been being a wife and mother and grandmother. Rosemary has been a caretaker for many family members and has done so with great joy and pride. Rosemary would most like to be remembered as gentle, caring, loving person.
Rosemary has always been dedicated to the Catholic church. First as a child attending Notre Dame Academy. After she married and started her family, she and her husband joined the newly formed parish of St. Vincent de Paul in west Phoenix. They were both very instrumental in building the parish, literally, as Robert helped with the physical construction of the church. They also sent all three of their children to St. Vincent’s grade school and Bourgade Catholic High School.
Rosemary was the vice-president and president of the Women’s Council at SVDP church. She also belonged to other parishes as they moved around the Phoenix valley. After she and her husband moved to Sun City West in 2003, they joined the Our Lady of Lourdes/Prince of Peace parish and was again active in the parish life. She was a member of the Women’s Guild and worked with the SVDP chapter.
Other non-church related community organizations were a Girl Scout Leader when her daughters were in grade school and volunteering at St Mary’s Food Bank after she retired. Other interests and hobbies besides her family which is first and foremost in her life are: Travel, music, dancing and reading.
A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11:00 am Committal service will be held immediately following the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery 9925 West Thomas Rd, Avondale, AZ 85392.
