Roy Thompson, 78, an Arizona native, passed away on October 29, 2025.
Roy was born on September 18, 1947, in Phoenix, to Margaret and Ishmael. He grew up in Glendale, raised his family in Phoenix, and later made his home in Avondale. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He’s now reunited with his wife, Glenda, and their firstborn son, Roy Jr.
Roy spent his life farming hay, working hard every day and taking pride in what he did. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, and he had a lifelong love for baseball and football. More than anything, he cherished his family and the time he got to spend with them. He leaves behind his children: Brian (Gizelle), Heather, Holly (Ivan Mester), and Hillary (Danny Hinz). To his twelve grandchildren—Michael, Justin, Kiel, Daniel, Hunter, David, Kody, Zayn, Alex M., Hannah, Alex, and Chayse—he was lovingly known as “Old Fart,” a nickname that he wore like a badge of honor. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Carter, Lluvia, Oakley, Juan, and Isaiah. Roy is also survived by his sister, Virginia Cole. He was preceded in death by his brothers Henry, John, and Bill. His family was his greatest joy, and his love will always be felt in their lives.
A service to celebrate Roy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Menke Funeral Home in Sun City
